Burn your favourite candle without ever lighting it

A gold and wood lamp that melts a scented candle from above, so the fragrance fills the room with no flame, no smoke and no black soot on the jar.

The ribbed glass shade lowers to 6 cm or rises to 14 cm to fit anything from a tealight tin to a large Yankee jar. A wired controller gives four brightness levels and a 2, 4 or 8 hour auto-off, so you can leave a candle scenting the room and let the lamp switch itself off.

Funistree Height-Adjustable Candle Warmer Lamp

A candle warmer lamp solves an odd little problem: the candle you paid £25 for is nicer than the way it burns. Lit, it tunnels down the middle, throws soot up the inside of the glass, drops its scent throw after twenty minutes and has to be watched. This lamp skips the flame entirely. A halogen bulb in the shade warms the surface of the wax from above until the top layer turns liquid and the fragrance lifts into the room, and nothing is ever on fire.

The practical gain is the whole top of the candle melts evenly. There is no tunnel, no crater, no wasted ring of wax stuck to the sides, and no wick to trim or drown. When you switch the lamp off the pool sets flat and clean, ready to melt again the next evening. People often find a candle lasts noticeably longer this way, simply because none of it is being burned off as smoke.

The height adjustment is what makes it a lamp you keep rather than a gadget you outgrow. Loosen the collar, slide the arm, and the clearance under the shade moves between roughly 6 cm and 14 cm. That covers a big three-wick jar, a slim apothecary jar, a supermarket tin, and a small dish of wax melts. Getting the gap right matters: the shade should sit close enough to warm the wax, without touching the rim of the jar.

Everything is driven from a wired controller that sits on the cable where you can reach it. One press turns it on, further presses walk through four brightness levels, and a timer button sets 2, 4 or 8 hours. Brightness is not just mood lighting here — the brighter the bulb, the warmer it runs and the faster the wax melts, so the same dial controls both the glow on the wall and how strongly the room smells.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a candle warmer lamp actually work?

A halogen bulb in the shade sits directly above the candle and warms the surface of the wax from the top down. The top layer melts into a shallow pool, the fragrance oils lift out of it into the room, and the wick is never lit. Switch the lamp off and the wax sets again.

Is the scent as strong as burning the candle?

Most people find it at least as strong, and steadier. A flame burns off some of the fragrance oil along with the wax; warming releases it instead. Turn the brightness up if you want the room filled faster, or down for a gentle background scent.

Will it fit my candle?

Almost certainly. The clearance under the shade adjusts from about 6 cm to 14 cm, which covers large three-wick jars, standard 20 cl jars, tealight tins and dishes of wax melts. If your candle is unusually tall, measure it first and check it against that 14 cm figure.

Does the candle still get used up?

Far more slowly, and far more evenly. Nothing is burned away, so what you lose is only the fragrance oil evaporating from the surface. The wax stays in the jar and melts flat every time instead of tunnelling down the middle.

Can I use it with a candle I have already burned?

Yes, and it is a good way to rescue one. Trim off any long wick and drop it in as normal. The warmer melts the whole surface, so it will level out a tunnelled candle over a couple of sessions and reach the wax stuck around the edges.

Does it work with wax melts as well as candles?

It does. Put the melts in a shallow heatproof dish, lower the shade towards its bottom position so the bulb sits close, and they will melt the same way. A dish is easier to clean out afterwards than a jar.

What does the timer do?

It sets the lamp to switch itself off after 2, 4 or 8 hours. Two hours suits an evening in one room, four covers a working afternoon, and eight is the overnight setting. It is the feature that lets you go to sleep with the room still scented.

Do the brightness levels change the heat?

Yes — that is the point of them. The bulb is the heater, so a brighter setting runs warmer and melts the wax faster for a stronger scent, while a lower setting gives a soft glow and a slower, gentler release.

Can I use it as a bedside reading lamp?

It is designed as a candle warmer rather than a lamp for reading by, and the shade throws its light downward onto the candle. It gives a lovely warm glow to a room, but do not buy it expecting task lighting.

What bulbs does it take and are they included?

50 W GU10 halogen bulbs, and two come in the box — one fitted and one spare. GU10 is a very common fitting, so replacements are easy to find in any UK hardware shop or supermarket.

Is it safe to leave running?

There is no open flame, which removes the main risk of a burning candle, and the timer will shut it off for you. Treat it like any mains lamp with a hot bulb: put it on a stable surface, keep it clear of curtains and fabric, and let it cool before you move it.

Is it safe around children and pets?

It is a lot safer than an open flame, which is why many people switch. The shade and the area near the bulb do get hot in use, so site it where a curious child or a cat's tail will not reach it, and let it cool before you handle it.

Does it come with a UK plug?

It runs on standard UK mains electricity. Where the supplier confirms the plug type we state it on the listing; if it is not shown, message us before you order and we will confirm what your unit ships with.

Does it smell of anything itself?

A new lamp can give off a faint warm-metal smell for the first hour or two as the finish cures, which is normal and passes. After that the only thing you should smell is the candle.

How do I clean it?

Let it cool completely, then wipe the glass shade and wooden base with a soft dry cloth. Wax splashes come off the base most easily while they are still soft. Keep water away from the bulb housing and the in-line controller.

Do you deliver, and how long does it take?

Yes, we deliver this item across the UK. Your delivery estimate and any options are shown at checkout before you pay, so you can see the timing for your address first.

What are the delivery costs?

Delivery is free on UK orders of £35 or more, and a flat £3.95 below that. The exact charge is worked out at checkout and shown before you confirm, with no fees added afterwards.

Can I return it if it does not suit me?

Yes. If it is not right, you can return it in line with our returns policy. Keep the packaging where you can — a glass shade travels much more safely in the box it arrived in.

Does it come with a warranty?

A specific warranty length is not confirmed in our product record, so we will not state a figure we cannot stand behind. Your statutory rights apply, and you can contact us before buying if warranty cover matters to you.

It arrived and it is not what I hoped for. What now?

Get in touch and we will sort it out. Whether it is a fault, a missing bulb or simply the wrong look for your room, we would rather put it right than leave you with something you will not use.

How to set up a candle warmer lamp so your candle melts evenly

6 min read Emberlight

A candle warmer lamp is a simple object, and most of the difference between one that delights you and one that sits in a cupboard comes down to how you set it up in the first week. This guide covers the three things that matter — clearance, brightness and the candle itself — and the small habits that keep a warmed candle looking as good as it smells.

Get the clearance right first

The single adjustment that changes everything is the gap between the bulb and the top of the wax. Too far away and the surface never quite melts; too close and you risk overheating the rim of the jar and scorching the very top layer.

Start with the shade about 2 to 3 cm above the rim of your candle. Switch on at a middle brightness and give it fifteen to twenty minutes. You are looking for a shallow, even pool of liquid wax across the whole surface — not a deep well, and not a dry ring at the edges. If the edges stay solid, lower the shade a little or step the brightness up. If the wax goes liquid within a couple of minutes and smells sharp rather than fragrant, you are running it too hot: raise the shade or step down.

Once you have found the setting for a particular candle, it will be the same every time you use that candle, so it is worth the twenty minutes.

Brightness is a heat dial, not a mood dial

On this lamp the bulb is both the light and the heater, so the four brightness levels are really four melting speeds. That has a useful consequence: you can choose how strongly the room smells.

A low setting gives a soft glow and a slow release, which suits a bedroom or a long evening where you want the scent to be a background note. The top setting fills a living room quickly, which is what you want when people are arriving in half an hour. Most people settle on running it high for the first twenty minutes to build the pool, then dropping it down to hold the scent steady.

Choosing candles that warm well

Nearly any jar candle works, but some are noticeably better.

Soy and coconut waxes have lower melt points and give up their fragrance readily at warmer-lamp temperatures — they are the easiest to get a good result from. Paraffin candles work fine too but may want a slightly closer shade. Heavily fragranced candles obviously throw more scent, but so do wide candles: surface area matters more than volume, because everything happens at the top.

Glass jars are ideal — they take the heat and let you see the pool. Metal tins work, and heat up faster, so start further away. Avoid anything in a plastic container, anything with dried flowers or wooden decorations set into the wax surface, and candles with lids you have to leave on.

The habits that keep it looking good

Let each session finish properly. Switching the lamp off and leaving the candle in place lets the pool set flat, which is what gives a warmed candle its clean, poured-looking surface. Moving a jar while the wax is liquid is how you end up with a lopsided candle and wax on the base of the lamp.

Wipe splashes off the wooden base while they are still soft. Cold wax on wood needs scraping; warm wax needs a cloth.

Do not trim off the wick unless it is genuinely in the way. Leaving it means you can still light the candle normally if you ever want to, and it does not affect the warming at all.

When to switch it off — and when to use the timer

The timer exists because the whole appeal of a flameless candle is being able to stop paying attention. Two hours suits an evening in one room. Four covers an afternoon of working from home. Eight is the setting to use if you want the bedroom to still smell of the candle when you fall asleep, without lying there wondering whether you left something burning.

There is no need to run it any longer than that. Once the top layer has been liquid for a while it has given up most of what it is going to give up that session; leaving it on for six hours does not make the room smell six times better, it just uses the fragrance up.

The short version

Shade 2 to 3 cm above the rim, medium brightness, twenty minutes to a full even pool. High to fill a room, low to hold it. Soy and coconut candles are the easiest to warm; wide beats tall. Let the wax set before you move anything, and use the timer so you never have to think about switching it off.
