The candle you were saving, finally used every evening

A gold lamp with a ribbed amber-glass shade that warms a scented candle from above, turning the one you were too precious to burn into an every-evening habit.

The shade rises to 16.3 cm or drops to 6.6 cm, so a big three-wick jar and a small tin both sit under it properly. Four brightness levels set how fast the wax melts, and a 2, 4 or 8 hour timer switches the lamp off on its own.

A candle warmer lamp with a ribbed amber-glass shade on a gold-tone frame and a round wooden base, standing about 32 cm tall. A 2, 4 or 8 hour timer means you can run a candle overnight without lying awake wondering whether you blew it out.

Candeldo Gold Candle Warmer Lamp

There is usually one candle in the house that never gets lit. It was a present, or it cost more than a candle sensibly should, and burning it feels like spending it. A warmer lamp changes the maths: nothing is consumed, so the expensive candle can scent the room every evening and still be there in six months. That is the real argument for one of these, and it is why so many end up bought as gifts for people who already own candles.

This one is built around a ribbed amber glass shade that reads as warm even when the lamp is off. Lit, the ridges break the light into vertical stripes across the wall behind it, and the amber tone flatters the wax glowing underneath. The gold-tone arm and round wooden base put it firmly in the cream-and-brass end of the room rather than the industrial end.

The adjustment range is generous. At the top of its travel there is about 16.3 cm under the shade, enough for the big three-wick jars that most warmers cannot take, and at the bottom about 6.6 cm, which puts the bulb close to a shallow tin or a dish of wax melts. Getting that gap right is most of what makes a warmer work well, and a wide range means one lamp handles a whole shelf of different candles.

Control is on a small wired handset on the cable: press to turn on, press again to walk through four brightness levels, and set 2, 4 or 8 hours on the timer. Since the bulb is doing the heating, brightness and melting speed are the same control, so the same button that dims the room also decides how strongly it smells.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I warm a candle instead of lighting it?

Because the candle survives. A flame burns the wax away; a warmer only lifts the fragrance off the surface, so an expensive candle can be used every evening and still be there months later — with no soot, no tunnelling and nothing to blow out.

How big a candle will fit under it?

There is about 16.3 cm of clearance at full height, which takes the large three-wick jars a lot of warmers cannot manage, and it drops to about 6.6 cm for small tins and dishes of wax melts.

How long until I can smell it?

Usually ten to twenty minutes on a higher setting, once a thin pool of liquid wax has formed across the surface. A wide candle scents a room faster than a narrow one because there is more surface area doing the work.

What do the four brightness levels do?

They set how hot the bulb runs, so they set how fast the wax melts and how strong the scent is. High fills a room quickly; low holds a gentle background note for the evening.

Can I leave it on overnight?

That is what the 8 hour timer is for. There is no naked flame and the lamp switches itself off, so a bedroom can smell of the candle as you fall asleep. Site it on something stable and clear of fabric.

Is it safe with children or pets in the house?

It removes the open flame, which is why many people move to one. The shade and the area around the bulb still get hot in use, so put it where small hands and tails cannot reach, and let it cool before moving it.

Does it work with wax melts?

Yes. Use a shallow heatproof dish, set the shade near its lowest position so the bulb sits close, and they melt exactly as they would in a burner — without a tealight underneath.

Can it fix a candle that has tunnelled?

It is very good at that. Because it warms the whole surface rather than just the middle, it gradually melts the ring of wax stuck to the sides and levels the candle back out.

Will it light the room?

Not usefully. The light points down into the candle and the amber shade is decorative. Think of it as a glow rather than a lamp you could read by.

What bulb does it use and is a spare included?

A 50 W warming bulb, and two come in the box. Bulbs are consumable in every candle warmer, so having the second one ready saves an evening without it.

Does it come with a UK plug?

It runs on standard UK mains. Where the supplier confirms the plug type we state it on the listing; if it is not shown, message us before ordering and we will confirm what your unit ships with.

Is the shade real glass?

Yes, ribbed glass, which is why it holds heat and light the way it does — and why it is worth keeping the original box for storage or a return.

Does it make any noise?

No. There is no fan and no motor. The only sound is the click of the controller.

Would it make a good gift?

It is one of the most reliable gifts for anyone who already owns candles, because it makes the candles they already love last. It arrives boxed and needs no assembly beyond fitting the bulb.

How do I clean it?

Cool first, then a soft dry cloth on the glass and the gold frame. Avoid abrasive cleaners on the finish, keep water away from the bulb housing, and lift wax off the wooden base while it is still soft.

Do you deliver, and how long does it take?

Yes, across the UK. Delivery estimates and options are shown at checkout before you pay, so you can see the timing for your address first.

What are the delivery costs?

Delivery is free on UK orders of £35 or more. This lamp is £33.99, so on its own it carries a flat £3.95 delivery charge — add anything else to reach £35 and delivery is free. The exact charge is shown at checkout before you confirm.

Can I return it if it does not suit me?

Yes, in line with our returns policy. Keep the packaging if you can — glass shades travel much more safely in the box they arrived in.

Does it come with a warranty?

A specific warranty length is not confirmed in our product record, so we will not quote a figure we cannot stand behind. Your statutory rights apply, and you can ask us before buying if warranty cover matters.

Which candles work best in a warmer lamp — and which to avoid

5 min read Emberlight

A candle warmer lamp does not care about wicks, but it cares a great deal about wax, jar shape and size. Choosing well is the difference between a room that smells wonderful in fifteen minutes and a candle that sits there looking pretty and doing nothing.

Wax type matters most

Soy and coconut wax are the easiest to warm. They have low melt points, they turn liquid at the sort of temperature a warming bulb produces, and they release fragrance readily. If you are buying candles specifically to use in a warmer, these are the safe choice.

Paraffin works perfectly well but has a higher melt point, so it likes the shade a little closer or the brightness a step higher. Give it a few extra minutes before you decide it is not working.

Beeswax is the awkward one. It melts hot, it holds onto its scent, and it is usually only lightly fragranced to begin with. A beeswax candle in a warmer will glow beautifully and smell of very little.

Wide beats tall

This is the single most useful thing to know. Everything happens at the surface, so scent throw depends on surface area, not on how much wax is in the jar.

A squat three-wick candle 10 cm across will fill a living room faster than a slim apothecary jar holding the same weight of wax. If you have a choice, buy the wide one. If you already own the narrow one, it still works — expect it to scent one room rather than a floor of the house.

Jars and containers

Clear glass is ideal: it takes the heat, and you can see the pool forming, which makes setting the height much easier.

Metal tins work and heat up faster than glass, so start with the shade a little higher than you otherwise would and check after ten minutes.

Ceramic is fine but opaque, so you are judging by scent rather than sight.

Avoid anything in a plastic vessel, anything with dried flowers, wooden wicks sticking up, or decorative wax ornaments on the surface — those are made for a flame that stays in the middle, not for a warm surface that melts everything at once.

Also skip candles with a lid you cannot remove, and any candle whose jar is wider than the lamp's base plate.

Reading the melt pool

Once you have run it for twenty minutes, look at the surface. You want a shallow, even pool from edge to edge, three or four millimetres deep. That is the sign everything is set correctly.

A dry ring at the edges means not enough heat: lower the shade or step the brightness up.

A deep well in the centre, or wax that smells sharp and slightly burnt, means too much: raise the shade or turn it down. Overheated fragrance oil smells thin and chemical, and it is the one way to genuinely spoil a good candle in a warmer.

Getting more life out of the candles you have

The warmer is at its best on candles that a flame has already treated badly. A tunnelled candle with a crater down the middle and centimetres of wax welded to the glass will level itself out over two or three sessions, because the whole surface melts rather than just the centre.

Old candles that have lost their throw often come back too — a flame burns off fragrance along with wax, while a warmer just lifts what is left.

And when a candle really is finished, the last stubborn centimetre in the bottom of the jar will melt clean, which makes the glass far easier to wash out and reuse.

The short version

Soy or coconut wax, wide rather than tall, in a glass jar. Twenty minutes to a shallow even pool. Dry edges mean go closer or brighter; a burnt smell means back off. Avoid plastic, dried flowers and beeswax. Use it to rescue the tunnelled candles you have already given up on.
